~ creating memories for over a 100 years ~
Welcome
Welcome to Grinnell Golf and Country Club where memories have been created for over 100 years. The Grinnell Golf Club was formed by 21 charter members on October 2, 1899. By 1908 the club boasted 34 members of whom 14 were women. A one room club house with a fireplace and screened porches was built around 1910. Golf was not the only form of recreation found at the country club. Clay tennis courts were added in the 1920s. Members ice skated on the ponds with big bonfires for warmth and also participated in shuffleboard, horse shoes, skeet shooting, even skiing off #9 tee to the pond below! In 1950 the country club was extensively remodeled and an addition was added. In 1956 a swimming pool and bath house were added to the clubs facilities. The additions and updates of 1963 and 1971 brought the size of the clubhouse to the footprint we have today. Improvements have continually been made to the golf course over the years. The watering system and sand bunker improvements
were done in 1990. Other major improvements completed before the 1999
Centennial included all new tees, new greens on number 5 and 7 and several
new sand traps. The rich tradition of Grinnell Golf and Country Club includes
many junior players who have went on to play college golf and some
professionally. We invite others to come make their own memories at the club.
Please contact the office and become a part of the Grinnell Golf and Country
Club family.
Golf About the Course
The Grinnell Golf and Country Club has been in existence over 100 years. It is a 9 hole golf course that features two ponds, a meandering stream, several tree lined fairways and bunkers on most holes to add to the challenge and enjoyment of your golf game. The golf course offers 3 sets of tees, ranging from 2,418 to 3,059 yards, designed to accommodate players of all skill levels. Members enjoy not having to make a tee time to come out and enjoy their course. Members can be found walking or riding while they play.
Golf Events
The club hosts many events throughout the golf season. There are many membership tournaments for men, women and children. Tournaments that are open to non-members are also held. (learn more...)
Junior Golf Program
The Junior Golf Program gives young golfers a way to learn or improve their skills. Our summer junior golf program will be open to the pubic. We are excited to provide such a program to our members but to the public. At GGCC we strive to make golf fun for the young. Our summer program runs for 8 weeks on Monday mornings. There are two sessions. Beginners at 9:00 and Advanced at 10:30. Each week, golfers get a 90 minute group lesson and then have the opportunity to go out and play. Parents are encouraged to attend the lesson and to walk with the kids to keep score and teach etiquette. All junior golfers will walk during play and will need their own clubs.
